Adero Renamer is a program devoted to rename files and folders according to precise rules.
It is specially designed to batch rename large groups of files, something very often needed with large collections of photos, pictures and music files. You will be able to define the parts of the names that you want to replace or delete, including extensions, dates, etc. When building the rules, you will preview how will the names of the files look once the renaming process is done. You can add as many parameters as you need to change the names according to your needs. The rules can then be saved in .TXT files that you can later edit and use again with the program.

Once you are satisfied with the resulting names, you can launch the renaming process. Once done, the program will show you a list with the tasks completed.

The Standard (free) version of this program will not let you move files into sub-folders created from metadata, undo name changes or read and edit the contents of the subfolders. It will not support drag and drop, and you will not receive technical support from the authors. All this is offered in the Pro (paid) version.
